Welcome to the fifth episode of “Science of Pauper”! I have special plans for this week’s contribution that involves you, my dear readership. Instead of introducing another Pauper I have in real life which however costs half a fortune on MTGO, I am going to try to build a deck from scratch. The funny part is that I only specify the first card of the deck and each of you is allowed to add another card. In the end, the deck may aim for something totally different from what the first contributors intended. Here are the rules:
1) You are only allowed to submit one card. Please post your suggestion in the comment section below with a few words why you want to see that particular card in the deck.
2) The card you add must be Pauper legal on MTGO.
3) The card you add must cost one ticket at most. If the prize is around one ticket, please state the bot where you saw the card. The reasoning behind that is to try out non-staple cards.
4) I will decide if the card will be in the main deck or sideboard and how many copies will be played.
5) Submissions are due to . I will have it running until sufficient cards are submitted (i.e. until this column is popular enough). 30th June 2012 31st July 2012
And who knows? If it is strong and/ or fun (and I bet it will be fun), then I might take it to a daily and see what happens. Anyways, I will definitively do some recordings for you. The deck I would like to build with you contains
Cavern Harpy
Man-o’-War (yugular)
Parasitic Strix (Will Lentz)
Chittering Rats (ANZ)
Ponder (Nathan Younkin)
Ninja of the Deep Hours (Chris Plummer, oraymw)
Counterspell (Mikey K)
Ghostly Flicker (Gabo)
Phyrexian Rager (ChrisJW)
Unearth (Peter Olmscheid)
Snuff Out (avery61)
Wormfang Drake (flo)
I am curious and excited to hear your card choices. I would also appreciate some short explanation why you want to include that particular card.
That’s it. Stay clean!

Good old Man-o’-War http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=189240
One direction to go from the Cavern Harpy is to use creatures with nice ETB effects. Man-o’-War is nice tempoplay and has synergy with Cavern Harpy.
If we’re already looking at UB and things that are fun to return to hand and recast over and over with Cavern Harpy, how about Parasitic Strix?

Repeatedly draining your opponent with it could close out a game and the 2 life you gain from it each time nicely offsets the 1 life lost to the Harpy.
I like this idea, High Gene!
What about Chittering Rats (http://gatherer.wizards.com/pages/card/Discussion.aspx?multiverseid=46096)? Could create a lock…
(i assume it’s too “cute”, but it might be fun)
Ponder
This is always a good card for any deck.
Well, since we’re doing Man-o-War, I’m going to suggest Ninja of Deep Hours. Ninjitsu the jellyfish, and play it again.
Sadly.. I do not want to force you to make a red deck so I can choose rolling thunder for being an X spell. So I’m picking the next best thing. Crypt rats is awesome and loves UB CONTROL!
Woops LOL.. I put my name as crypt rats by mistake… My bad!
Okay my bad.. Ill switch my thing to counterspell… I thought 7th edition crypt rats were a dollar. Gotta love old school counterspell. But please use the MM Versions!
Gotta have Ninja of the Deep Hours.
I’m thinking a couple of Ghostly Flickers would go well in this deck.
Phyrexian Rager (http://gatherer.wizards.com/pages/card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=213804)
Works with the harpy, flicker and ninja and the life loss can be offset with the strix
Seeing as how the majority of the creature listed so far are cmc 3 or less going to have to suggest Unearth. getting the creatures back that you want to keep blinking and setting the tempo seems pretty good to me.
I’d love to see Snuff Out in the deck. Early game you’ll be tapped out a bit and you have some life gain so it wouldn’t hurt too much.
Oh, a little too late, but the dicision was hard. there many cards, that make sense to this deck.
I think, we need creatures, so I take the Wormfang Drake ( http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=169120 ).
It is good for the Blink-Action. It scares ur opp to attck u, that gives u time
or if u have already board control, u can fly above defensive line of ur opp.
