The road to #SCGNY

So #SCGNY is coming up and due to my location I do not get to make many major tournaments so the Starcity event seemed to be a good one to hit as its just across the boarder.  I suspect there will be lots of Delver floating around but with M13 being released just before it who knows.  One thing I do know is that will all the testing and playing I have been doing I really don’t want to play Delver.  It is not that I think the deck is bad because it isn’t , it’s more that I just don’t have fun playing it.

So what will I play you ask…. Well I think I will go with a R/G aggro deck of some type.

As it stands here is the list I have been playing.  If you have suggestions please feel free to comment with them and I will try them out.

MAIN DECK

SIDEBOARD

The Sword choices I made where based on the ones I had and as some might say Body and Mind is bad, it is good VS Delver.

Again I am open to suggestions

I will also start posting more decks from other formats now that we are starting to play Modern, Legacy and Vintage locally.

Vampires in Standard

Well today is another deck list day and for this one I have decided to post the Vampire deck we have been working on.  Both my son and I love tribal so you might end up seeing them quite a bit on here.  As the title says today’s list will be Vampires.

we still need to do some work on this deck but at least we have a winning record with it at our local FNM the few times its been played.

As always if you have questions, suggestions or comments feel free to shoot them our way.

Main Deck

The sideboard is not complete yet and with sideboards being meta dependent I will leave it out for now.  On that note I will mention it has things like Arc Trail and Slagstorm.

I really do feel that Vampires could be a real (well real FNM i mean) deck.

As always you can reach me on twitter @MTG_VooDoo or leave comments here.

Thanks

Green / Red Aggro deck

Well today I will post another one of my sons decks that he has been working on.  This deck needs work for sure but he has had a lot of fun testing it out and making changes to try and get it ready for FNM.  If you have any thoughts or suggestions please pass them along my way.  Anyway off to the deck list.

Main Deck

Now I have not had the chance to test with him since he started this deck as he might have had March break off but i unfortunately had to still work and being on midnights its hard to get good testing in.  I hope to see him play this at FNM this week and will test with him on the weekend.

Green / Black Pod List

Well first off I need to give some credit to Chris Lansdell as this list was inspired from his pod list.

I played this list at my last FNM and took second going 4-1 with my loss being to a Spirit Delver list that was just to fast to let me go off with the pod.

I still feel like the list has some room for improvement and I am always open to comments and suggestions.  One this I was contemplating was to cut down the number of 6 and 7 drops and keeping the majority of the curve around  the 3 and 4 slot.

Some have told me that is not a good idea but by adding 2 more messengers and 2 more metamorphs you have the potential to end games really fast.  I will continue to play around with the list and see where it takes me.  The one thing I have noticed is that even with no pod this list ends games so its good to know that you don’t fully rely on the pod to go off.

Here is the main deck list that I have been running in my testing.

Main Deck

I am not going to list the sideboard at this time as I am still working on cards that should be in it , plus I feel the sideboard is very meta dependent.

If you have suggestions or comments on this list feel free to share them.

Green/White tokens……. my sons newest pet deck

First off I would just like to say sorry for the lack of content I have been putting up but things in the real world have been crazy the last little bit.  With that said today’s post will be on a deck that my son has been working on and testing at the local game store.

last weeks FNM was the first time he has run this deck out side of teh at home testing and he ran good with it.  He went 4-1 loosing to a JUND deck but beating black/White tokens, Spirits and a deck that he could not tell what it was as the games didn’t last long enough for him to see enough cards.

So on to the deck list

Main Deck

Side Board

I have seen this deck in action as well been on the other side of the table from it and I will say it can be very explosive and can go off very fast.  Personally I do not like playing against it with my blue white spirits deck.

Now if anyone has comments or suggestions on cards to change or try my son is always open to what other players have to say.

As always you can comment here and find me on Twitter @MTG_VooDoo

Opponents going on TILT!

Well normally I would be posting the weekly results from the local Friday Night Magic game but seeing as I played the same deck for the last 3 weeks I thought I would post a deck list that my son and I have been working on.

As you might guess from the title of this post, this deck has been putting players that face it on TILT and has even had some rage quits against it.  I will admit this deck started off with about 100 cards that we though would just annoy its opponents, so putting someone on TILT is kind of the goal.

Also this deck is still in the making and I would be open to any and all suggestions that might make the deck that much better.

OK so onto the deck list;

Creatures:

Planeswalkers:

Spells:

Artifacts:

Lands:

Sideboard:

So as you can see the deck contains lots of stuff to just stop or slow down your opponent while you mill them out.  A few of the cards that have been recently added and have made a huge impact on the game are Druidic Satchel & Tezzeret’s Gambit.  The Satchel is always just a win win situation, get a land and thin your deck, get a blocker or gain 2 life.  All of the things the Satchel offers are things you want anyway so I figured why not add it.  As for the Gambit will this was added after many games where that was multiple Planeswalkers in play, so why not draw 2 cards then add some loyalty counters to bump your walkers up right?  Seemed like a good Idea and I have to say I prefer these over the ponders that where in the main board.

Some cards I have been contemplating adding to the deck are:

Both cards would be a one off as you dig and draw cards fast enough to usually hit what you need or an answer that will hold them off until you do draw what you need.

I can also say that when Dark Ascension is released there will be a few cards that get added to the deck for testing with one of them being Increasing Confusion.

Well with that said we will continue to test and tweak this deck until it is the best it can be in the current format.

Again if you have any suggestion, additions we have missed, Questions about cards in teh deck or just want to comment on the deck we are open to any and all comments to this list.

Until next time, remember you can find me on Twitter @MTG_VooDoo

Magic weekend with not the best resaults

Well I am going to keep this post short and sweat as I played the same list as last weeks FNM with the only addition being Seachrome Coast as I managed to pick 3 more up right before the tournament started to finish my playset.

So with that said my MTG weekend started with FNM and although I DID want to play a different deck I did not have time to fine tune it a bit more before FNM started.  This week we played 5 rounds and I ended up with a record of 3-2.   Both of my match loses where due to misplays on my part mixed with a bit of mana issues.

That being said I am not making any excuses for the loses other then my misplays as this will only help me get better thinking of the plays rather then the mana problems that occurred.

My rounds were as follows

  • G1 – Grixis control 2-0 (win)
  • G2 – Mono Black Infect 2-1 (win)
  • G3 – U/W Humans 1-2 (loss)
  • G4 – Mono Black Infect – 1-2 (loss)
  • G5 – Mono Green Dungrove – 2-0 (win)

So my major misplays in the matched that I lost were using mana leak to counter the wrong spells and making bad sideboard decisions.  I still love to play this deck and continue to get better with it as I play it against more decks.

Next tournament of the weekend was on Sunday and for this we only played 4 rounds.  Again I decided to play the same deck as my son wanted to play the deck we tuned up the night before ( more details on this deck after next weeks games, unless you would like deck spoilers then I can post a deck list for everyone to see).

On Sunday I went 3-1 and came second for the day with my only loss being against Delver Blade.  I found the Invisible Stalker just to hard to deal with once they hit the board and not once did I draw a steel sabotage or Master Thief to combat the equipment on the Invisible Stalker.

That being said my games went as follows:

  • G1 – Delver Blade 0-2 (loss)
  • G2 – 3 color home brew 2-1 (win)
  • G3 – U/W Humans 2-0 (win)
  • G4 – Heartless Summoning 2-0 (win)

One thing I did  bit different for these games was to play more controlling then all in aggro.  This seemed to work well as I always had mana open for mana leak, snapcaster mage and vapor snag. I most cases my opponent could not cast or keep a permanent on the board long enough to offer any kind of pressure towards me.

One thing I can say is win or loose I have fun playing this game no matter what and I always try to brush losses off and just move onto the next game so that I do not let them get to me.

Next time as mentioned I will go over a deck I have been working on that is super fun to play but not very fun to play against.  If you want a preview of the deck just let me know and I will post a deck list (that of course I am always open to suggestions on).

Follow me on twitter @MTG_VooDoo and lets talk some magic !!

For now I will keep this short and keep brewing and playing magic.

Illusions and my fun with this deck at FNM

So last Friday I decided to go back to running Illusions at my local FNM.  I have shelved this deck for a bit due to not having all the cards for the deck but decided that it was still well positioned in my local metagame.

After looking at the decklist you will see what main cards are missing and will also see what I added to act as a temp replacements.

Main Deck

Spells

Creatures

Lands

Sideboard

So looking at the deck list you can see I am missing a few dual lands for this deck and I am currently looking in trade binders when out at MTG events to find them.  With that said the deck still runs really well and took me to a 5-0 record at the last FNM I played it.

One of the big cards that really made this deck function well and was almost always sideboarded in was Master Thief.  With my local meta playing lots of artifacts including Wurmcoil Engine & Batterskull.

The one thing I think that’s keeping Illusions in the mix is that it is not only an aggro deck that  will lay the beat down but you can also play it as a control deck.  The card that really puts some hurt on your opponents tempo is Vapor Snag.  If you have not played this card or had it played repeatedly against you then you might not understand.   Not only will it take a blocker away to let your Delver or Bears in for some beats but it also sets up a Mana Leak nicely when you might not have had the mana available to originally counter a creature.

I think I will continue to play Illusions but will also have to try out some other decks as well and with that said I think for this weeks FNM I will run turbo fog as it has also been running well at our local gaming store.

Feel free to comment on any of my decks or make any suggestions that you feel might help my lists out.
