Won my FNM last night with the list below. Super happy right now, seems like many months of consistently pretty good play has finally resulted in a win. :) After recording many 3-1 records I finally completed my first 4-0 too. Anway, the deck list is below:

Creatures

4 x Gravecrawler

4 x Diregraf Ghoul

4 x Blood Artist

4 x Geralf’s Messenger

4 x Bloodflow Connoisseur

4 x Falkenrath Noble

4 x Phyrexian Obliterator

2 x Phyrexian Metamorph

Non Creatures

3 x Tragic Slip

3 x Ratchet Bomb

1 x Mortarpod

2 x Homicidal Seclusion

22 x Swamp

Sideboard

3 x Cavern of Souls

1 x Torpor Orb

1 x Sever the Bloodline

2 x Soulcage Fiend

2 x Phyrexian Crusader

3 x Black Sun’s Zenith

2 x Lashwrithe

So that is that. FNM starts at 6.30 and I started building about 6:10. I had a BR Zombies list built before where a lot of the pre-Avacyn Restored cards were, so it was a bit easier. I was still building it at the store, deciding what to put in and what not to, hence the terrible sideboard. Turned up with an unsleeved, untested deck and won. Magic is a strange beast. Anyway, happy with the deck overall, will be editing it ready for next week.

Round 1 – Against UB Zombies. Match lasted less than 10 minutes. Both games I was super fast out of the blocks, he wasn’t as fast, beat hi8m down game 1 with Gravecrawler and Diregraf Ghoul followed by a Geralf’s Messenger later. Game 2 went Gravecrawler, T3 Geralf’s Messenger (Mana Leaked), t4 Geralf’s Messenger and then won with an awesome board position. Was done before a lot of people finished game 1.

Round 2 – Again, super fast match. Not totally sure what my opponent was doing, went 2-0 with super fast start. However, had a really fun casual game against a black deck, where my deck kind of did what I want it to be doing next week. I ended up with 2 Falkenrath Nobles in play and 1 Phyrexian Metamorph as a copy of Falkenrath Noble. He was on 12, I was on 5 and I sacrificed 4 creatures to my Bloodflow Connoisseur to deal him exactly 12 damage (and gain 12 life).

Round 3 – Good game this, against the person who came second in the end. He had a brew VERY similar to my WR tokens using Intangible Virtue and Battle Cry to great effect. Game 1 I killed off a signal pest with my mortarpod which realistically won me the game, bought me enough time to get Phyrexian Obliterator out. Game 2, back and forth for a while, managed to Black Sun’s Zenith for 2, killing all of his tokens and my Geralf’s Messengers. He won out in the end off a Brimstone Volley/Shock 7 damage and then game 3 I won due to ratchet bomb and Geralf’s Messenger. His deck hated sweepers, especially Ratchet Bomb, but it was good to see a deck very similar to mine in action. Game 3 was againt back and forth, but I got Falkenrath Noble on board at the right time in order to stabilise.

Round 4 – Final! Was very excited at this point, had gone 3-0 and came up against a player I had never played before. He was new to the FNM but was a very good player, running a cool brew using Golem token makers and flicker effects, as well as some control elements. Game 1 was closely fought, I misplayed a little at the end but it made no difference to the end result, I’d probably have lost. I sideboarded into Torpor Orb, Sever the bloodline and Cavern of Souls. Game 2, I played Torpor Orb turn 2, which pretty much shuts this deck down. By turn 3 it had been Oblivion Ringed and I had to cast Ratchet Bomb and start to tick it up hoping to get my torpor orb back. It does stop the Geralf’s Messenger trigger but it seemed worth it to shut down his deck. He didn’t see anything too good and I just beat down with a Geralf’s Messenger and a Gravecrawler. Game 3 ended up being a mistake by him meaning that I won the game, but I probably would have won anyway. I had an awesome board position, with 5 creatures to his 3, including 2 Falkenrath Nobles and 1 Blood Artist. He ended up playing Day of Judgment, which meant that all of the creatures died, he lost 24 life due to the vampire creatures on my side of the board. A misplay on his behalf, but I am confident I would have won anyway.

Overall a great night with a good deck. The 2 x Homicidal Seclusion was weak, took it out every game (I never played it). Falkenrath Aristocrat and Blood Artist are so damn awesome. The life switch is so important in the aggro match ups, just allows you to win races and block profitably. Overall, very happy with how the deck performed, I think that 22 swamps was perfect, having the ability to side into Cavern of Souls was pretty good, even though I have a few creature types (namely, Zombies and Vampires) it still worked well. Great turn 3 land to make sure a messenger lands, or turn 4 to make sure the Obliterator lands. Hopefully it won’t come up that I want Zombie for turn 3 and Horror for turn 4, but nonetheless it seemed good in the sideboard. Might bring more torpor orbs next week, shuts down Soulbond and a lot of Birthing Pod. Will run Ratchet Bomb in the main again, worked well there.

Anyway, YAY! That’s all for now, if you come up with a cool name or want to ask any questions, feel free to comment or tweet me at Davremon. And as an aside, I loved the Hallelujah deck for Pro Tour Barcelona!
